                  Project Summary


                  On this EUR 25 million project, OJSC Magnitogorsk Gipromez is responsible for the general design of the modernization and technical upgrade activities for the LPC-11 complex of OAO Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Works. The objective of the upgrade project is to meet the needs of manufacturers of high-quality body sheets to be used for car exteriors and household appliances. This includes the manufacturing of coated (or galvanized) sheets that are an extension of cold-rolled product grades.


                  The electrical design team used Bentley Raceway and Cable Management integrated within a 3D model covering all other disciplines – HVAC, piping, building, and electrical equipment. Using conceptual design functionality, OJSC Magnitogorsk Gipromez quickly identified the need for cable products and materials and accurately calculated preliminary project costs. The calculated outputs contained the initial specification of cables, wire trays, and traces dimensions for the primary layout.


                  Bentley’s raceway design and cable management software enabled quick, accurate identification of the cable products and materials required for the upgraded facility, and helped the electrical design team execute the project in accordance with all regulated Russian standards. Moreover, after downloading the lists of cable products from other software in Excel format, users could automatically or manually lay cables to determine preliminary or exact lengths of cable products. Consumers of materials were defined on the equipment layout plan.


                  Bentley Raceway and Cable Management allowed groups of users to work simultaneously in a connected data environment, which increased productivity by 15 to 20 percent and accelerated the overall design process by 30 percent. Using a single model rather than multiple drawings improved decision making and allowed the team to be more creative in problem solving.
